In a collision of regal proportions, the world witnessed an unforgettable convergence of the fictitious and the real, as the one and only Helena Bonham Carter, famous for her portrayal of the indomitable Princess Margaret in seasons three and four of The Crown, found herself in the splendid company of none other than the Queen Consort herself, Camilla, at Clarence House. The rendezvous occurred at a glitzy reception held to celebrate 30 years of the Forward Arts Foundation. Court short over Serena's final flourish

Margaret Court has called out Serena Williams following her retirement after losing against Aussie Alja Tomljanovic. The US tennis champion’s career came to an end after she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 in the third round of the US Open. This means Court will hold onto her grand slam record that Williams has tried besting for a long time. Despite the win for Court, she didn’t hold back when she called out the US player who she says should have spoken more about her opponent following her loss. “Serena, I’ve admired her as a player, but I don’t think she has ever admired me,” Court told The Telegraph UK. “I thought it was bad that Williams didn’t mention her opponent more when she spoke. “We were taught to be role models for the young, in how we behaved. We were taught to honour our opponent. You learned from your losses. We respected one another.” In her retirement speech, Williams mentioned Court and slammed those who said she doesn’t deserve to be the GOAT (greatest of all time) because of her loss. “There are people who say I’m not the GOAT because I didn’t pass Margaret Court’s record of 24 grand slam titles, which she achieved before the ‘open era’ that began in 1968,” Williams said. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want that record. Obviously I do. But day to day, I’m really not thinking about her. If I’m in a grand slam final, then yes, I am thinking about that record. Maybe I thought about it too much, and that didn’t help. “The way I see it, I should have had 30-plus grand slams.” Court went on to single out tennis organisers who she claims completely ignored her at Wimbledon, and the lack of invitations for other big tennis events. “It’s very sad, because a lot of the press and television today, particularly in tennis, don’t want to mention my name,” she said. “It’s only when they have to, because I still hold so many records. In 2020, I was meant to be coming to Wimbledon for the 50th anniversary of my calendar grand slam. “But then Covid hit, so the honour never happened. The French Open didn’t invite me, the US Open didn’t invite me. Rod Laver had won the slam and I was going to be honoured in the same way, but no. “I didn’t lose any sleep over it. Margaret Ulrich, the New Zealand singer best known for her vocals on Daryl Braithwaite’s hit The Horses, has died aged 57 after battling breast cancer for two and a half years. The songstress passed away peacefully at her home in the NSW Southern Highlands on Monday, surrounded by her family. In 2016, Ulrich admitted she regrets not appearing in the music video, which was being filmed while she was recording an album in London. “I could have come back to do the video but I was doing my own thing by that stage,” she told News Corp. “A lot of people know it's my singing, but they don't put two and two together that it's not me in the video. “In retrospect, it was probably a little bit silly because the song was so huge. But at the time I was young and a bit stupid, I did what I thought was right. Margaret Atwood’s new book to remain unseen until 2114

Margaret Atwood’s unread manuscript will remain locked away until 2114. The Man Booker prize-winning novelist is one of the first contributors to the Future Library project based in Norway. Conceived by Scottish artist Katie Paterson, the project saw a thousand spruce saplings being planted in the forest of Nordmarka outside Oslo in 2014. In a century, the trees will be cut down, turned into paper and used to print an anthology of 100 unpublished books – including Atwood’s. “The idea is that one author per year is commissioned specifically to write a new piece of work for the forest, with the knowledge that nobody is going to read it until the trees are fully grown,” Paterson told <a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12-17/the-future-library-norway-wood-margaret-atwood/11783438">ABC RN</a>. Paterson said Atwood was the first author she and the Future Library Trust approached for the initiative. “We got a phenomenal response from Margaret,” Paterson said. “She responded to our letter not only agreeing to write for the Future Library, but giving us advice about what kind of trees to plant and how to plant them because she grew up in a forest herself.” Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale, said of <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/sep/05/margaret-atwood-new-work-unseen-century-future-library">her decision to participate</a> then, “It is the kind of thing you either immediately say yes or no to. You don’t think about it for very long. “When you write any book you do not know who’s going to read it, and you do not know when they’re going to read it. You don’t know who they will be, you don’t know their age, or gender, or nationality, or anything else about them. So books, anyway, really are like the message in the bottle.” Since Atwood joined, five other authors have come on board: Cloud Atlas novelist David Mitchell, Turkish writer Elif Shafak, Icelandic poet and lyricist Sjón, Man Booker-winning author Han Kang and Norwegian autobiographic novelist Karl Ove Knausgård. Every year until 2114, a writer will be invited to contribute to the collection. The trust plans to store the manuscripts in a special Silent Room in Oslo’s new public library, and print 3,000 copies of all 100 texts when the time arrives. Paterson acknowledged that there are “many unknowns” in today’s world. “We’re in a total climate crisis, in a catastrophic moment, and so we can’t predict entirely that the forest will still be there in a hundred years, but we have to do everything we can to ensure that it will be,” she said.

Former aide reveals Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother’s “strained relationship”

While it may seem as though the details of the Royal Family’s life is information readily available at the public’s disposal, it can be difficult to really know what goes on behind closed doors. However, it has become a custom for a former employee or insider to come forward with interesting information we might not have guessed without their stories or experiences. This has been the case with Queen Elizabeth’s longtime dresser, Angela Kelly, and more recently Lady Anne Glenconner in her new memoir. Glenconner served as a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret for many years and developed a close relationship, she described in Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown. In her own words, Glenconner described personal experiences and interactions she shared serving under and alongside the Royal Family. In the memoir, the former lady-in-waiting spoke on Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother, who buy her own accounts, “had a slightly strained relationship.” "Those weekends at Royal Lodge were always fun, despite the bouts of bickering between the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret,” she said, per <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1203465/lady-glenconner-princess-margaret-queen-mother-strained-relationship-spt" target="_blank">Express</a> "One would do things like open all the windows, only for the other to go around shutting them. Or one would suggest an idea and the other would dismiss it immediately." Glenconner speculated they didn’t get along all the time because they might have been “too similar.” “...I don’t think it is an unusual predicament for a mother and daughter," she wrote. Referring to the family’s loss of King George VI, and the “figurative” loss of Queen Elizabeth, who assumed the throne after her father died, Glenconner said: "And while they had been part of a foursome originally, they were left as the spare pair, to a certain extent." The former royal employee also wrote about a conversation she shared with Princess Margaret. After noting the royal looked upset at her sister’s coronation, the Princess replied: "Of course I looked sad, Anne. “I had just lost my beloved father and, really, I had just lost my sister, because she was going to be so busy and had already moved to Buckingham Palace, so it was just me and the Queen Mother." Helena Bonham Carter, who is set to play the Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret in the third and fourth seasons of the Netflix series The Crown has revealed she has a particularly unique connection to the royal. During a conversation at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, the actress noted she has photographs of the couple together. New letters from Princess Margaret reveal her true feelings about Prince Charles

A series of letters have been discovered which were written by none other than Princess Margaret. The letters were written when Princess Margaret was a teenager, and they shed some light on how she was feeling about becoming a first-time aunt. The notes were written to Sharman Douglas, who was Princess Margaret’s close friend. Douglas was an American socialite and the duo attended parties and dinners together, forging a close bond. In one letter dated 1st April 1979, Margaret writes: "Thank you very much for my delightful evening on Wednesday. I did love every minute of it. "In that last fleeting moment in the 400 [the 400 Club in Leicester] you said you'd like to come and see my heavenly nephew. "I don't know quite when you stop work but if you'd like to drop in about 5.30 on either Wed or Thurs next week, whichever suits, I would adore to show him to you." There’s a series of ten letters that are now up for auction by Ewbanks in London. Princess Margaret’s antics before her death in 2002 at 71 have made up some of the juiciest royal drama in the past. When the Queen’s younger sister was seen kissing on a beach, it was just the first in a series of marriage scandals that would plague the Royal Family for decades. Although the Queen did not love the relationship between Margaret's toy boy Roddy Llewellyn, who was 17 years her junior, she soon accepted it. The affair between Princess Margaret and Roddy was first made aware to the public in February 1976 when the pair were spotted in swimsuits on the Caribbean island of Mustique. The Princess was 45 and married to Lord Snowdon, when she was seen with the then 26-year-old landscape gardener. They were already almost three years into what would be an eight-year affair. It was only weeks after the photographs made tabloids that the Queen’s younger sister and Snowdon announced their separation, divorcing in 1978. After their romantic holiday that pulled in a flood of coverage, the media hounded Roddy until he issued a statement. "I much regret any embarrassment caused to Her Majesty the Queen and the royal family, for whom I wish to express the greatest respect, admiration and loyalty," it read. "Could we please be permitted by the media, who have besieged us, to carry on with our work and private lives without further interference." However, the two were not left alone. "When it emerged, that Margaret was having the relationship with Roddy Llewellyn, we were absolutely in the age of tabloid gossip and celebrity news and this was the perfect story to feed that machine," Chris Granlund, executive producer of the documentary Margaret: A Rebel Princess, said. Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, the first royal couple to televise their wedding, were regarded as one of Britain’s most glamorous couples. The tradition-breaking marriage saw Antony become the first commoner to marry into the British royal family in over four centuries. Famous personalities are often known to deal with invasions of privacy, but a few Italian journalists took it too far after they broke into the late Princess Margaret’s hotel room, according to a documentary. Beatrice Behlen, a royal expert, said the Queen’s younger sister was “absolutely hounded” during a trip to Italy in May 1949. Margaret, who was only 18 at the time, quickly rose to fame and had become an “icon” around the world, which led to being photographed everywhere she went. Behlen, who spoke on the BBC documentary Princess Margaret: The Rebel Royal, said that “she went to Italy, and people are just totally hounding her. “They actually broke into her hotel room to find out what nail varnish she was wearing, and that was reported in the press.” An issue of LIFE Magazine from 1949 recounts how “an Italian newspaper woman had managed to slip into the Princess’ hotel suite,” <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.hellomagazine.com/" target="_blank">Hello!</a> reports. Taken from a newsreel from May 1939, the black-and-white footage shows a 13-year-old Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret enjoying some family time on the grounds of Buckingham Palace. The Queen’s younger sister Princess Margaret’s lavish morning routine has been unearthed in a new book Ma'am Darling: 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret. At 11am Princess Margaret would have an hour-long bath for her drawn before having her hair and make-up done at her dresser.
